   5     The University of Michigan is pleased to announce release 3.3 of
   6     UM-LDAP, an implementation of the Lightweight Directory Access
   7     Protocol. LDAP is a draft Internet standard directory service
   8     protocol that runs over TCP/IP. It can be used to provide a
   9     stand-alone directory service, or to provide lightweight access to
  10     the X.500 directory.  LDAP is defined by RFC 1777 and RFC 1778.

  14         - slapd - a stand-alone LDAP directory server
  15         - slurpd - a stand-alone LDAP replication server
  16         - ldapd - an LDAP-to-X.500 gateway server
  17         - centipede - an LDAP centroid generation and maintenance program
  18         - libldap - an LDAP client library
  19         - liblber - a lightweight BER/DER encoding/decoding library
  20         - ldif tools - data conversion tools for use with slapd
  21         - in.xfingerd - a finger-to-LDAP gateway server
  22         - go500 - a gopher-to-LDAP gateway server for searching
  23         - go500gw - a gopher-to-LDAP gateway server for searching and browsing
  24         - rcpt500 - an email-to-LDAP query responder
  25         - mail500 - an LDAP-capable mailer
  26         - fax500 - an LDAP-capable mailer that supports remote printing
  27         - LDAP tools - A collection of shell-based LDAP utility programs

  84     This release has been ported to many UNIX platforms, including
  85     SunOS 4.1.x, Solaris 2.x, Ultrix 4.3, HP-UX 9.05, AIX 3.2.5,
  86     SCO, FreeBSD, NetBSD, LINUX, IRIX, Digital Unix (OSF/1), and
  87     NeXTSTEP 3.2.  This release has also been ported to VMS.

  89     The client libraries and some clients have also been ported to
  90     MacOS 7.x, MSDOS (some TCP stacks), and MS Windows 3.1/95/NT.
