   3     This is the OpenLDAP version 1.0 distribution.

   8         directory.  For a more detailed description of how to make an
   9         install the distribution, see the INSTALL file in this directory.

  14 MAKING AND INSTALLING THE DISTRIBUTION

  16     You should be able to make and install the distribution with a pretty
  17     standard default configuration by typing the following commands

  19         % make
  20                 this will copy Make-common.dist to Make-common.
  21                 Edit Make-common as desired.
  22         % make
  23                 this will build the system
  24         % su
  25         # make install

  27     in this directory.  This should produce something that basically
  28     works.

  30     You will probably want to do a little configuration to suit your
  31     site, though.  There are two files you might want to edit:

  33         Make-common.dist
  34                 contains distribution defaults.  This file is used to
  35                 contruct Make-common and should not be edited except to
  36                 add new features/options to the distribution.

  38         Make-common
  39                 contains default definitions for where things will be
  40                 installed, where to find various things, etc.  These defaults
  41                 are used in absense of platform-specific defaults.  You may
  42                 hardcode settings in Make-common if you desire.  You will
  43                 need to edit this file to enable optional features.

  46                 contains platform-specific defaults.

  49                 This file contains #defines used by many parts of the
  50                 distribution.  You'll at least want to change DEFAULT_BASE.
