I finally found and squashed the elusive SD crash.
  I needed to initialize the used volume list before
  firing off the device initialization thread.

S_ISBLK for Win32 + small bugfix of S_ISREG and S_ISDIR

I assume the BSD code part (line 424) is faulty as it only is activated when SPARSE is on.

 Make sure that bpipe results are zapped even on
  error return.

  is specified and autolabel not turned on.
